In 1937, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his son, Elliot, came to Port Aransas, Texas to do some Tarpon fishing. In this clip you will see the president land one of several Tarpon he caught here.
Also in this film you will see Guide Teddy Mathews at the helm of his Farley built 'Marcy Boat'. Barney Farley Sr set the trip up and also deckhanded to make sure all went smoothly for the president.
You can read Farley's account of this event in his book 'Fishing Yesterdays Gulf Coast'.
This video was obtained from the FDR Library by Farley's grandson Keith Farley and delivered by Barney Farley III, both of whom are very involved in local historical research.
